25dot
25dot is another project I started because I felt I wasn't taking enough pictures. After completing my 365days I went back into my lazy mode and would not even pull out my camera for a week or two at a time. While I did have some nice photoshoots and created some images I'm really proud of I still felt like I should be doing more and thus 25dot was born.
On my 25th birthday I took a picture. That was 25.1. I plan to take one picture every day for as long as I can. I hope to put some thought into every picture and not just go out and take a random snapshot. This will require dedication and creativity, both of which can be hard to come by in the busyness of life. Flickr Set | Blog Entries
Update: Well this project died a slow death. I started to fall behind when life started to get really crazy and now I'm so far behind it doesn't make much sense to call it 25dot anymore. Maybe I'll try again with 26, but I'm not sure at this point.
House of Cards
House of Cards is my new self portrait project. I originally planned to do it as part of a 52weeks project. Similar to 365days you do one photo a week for a year. However, after delaying my start on the project for about six months I've decided to do the 52 photos I have planned, but in whatever time it takes. Sometimes I'll do a couple in a day, sometimes I wont do one for a few weeks.
So what is House of Cards? Well when I began to think of overall themes for a 52weeks project I thought of things that directly related to the number 52 and the first idea I had was a deck of cards. I liked the idea of each photo being associated with a different card, and also the theme of the picture is determined by the suit. I wont give away all the themes yet until I have a better supply of pictures finished. I still have my list of ideas for cards that I started last December so I'm glad to finally get out and start shooting them. Flickr Set | Blog Posts
365days
365days is a project where you take a self portrait every single day for an entire year. I learned about it through friends and other photographers I admire on Flickr and you can see others work on their own projects in the 365days group on flickr.
I began my 365days on October 29th 2007. I had owned my first DSLR for several months at this point but I felt I was not using it enough. I began the project to not only use my camera, but also learn it inside and out. I tried to keep my project interesting so I tried new locations, angles, styles, and lighting. I grew so much as a photographer during this project and I also had lots of fun along the way (which you can probably tell from my various silly portraits).
Doing this project also increased my interest in photographing people and doing portraits. I always wanted to shoot people but my friends would either run from the camera or not have the patience to pose for me while I worked on the shot. Turning the camera on myself gave me a model to work with and all the time that I needed to get the shot right. Now I work with lots of models doing portraits and I use many of the techniques that I learned during this project. I would like to do another year, but it is a major commitment and I think I will try out a smaller projects before making my return to 365days. Flickr Set | Slideshow
